According to the sacred scriptures of the Sanatan tradition, the third day (Tritiya) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Vaishakha, known as Akshaya Tritiya, is a self-auspicious moment. It is a sacred day on which the merit earned never diminishes. It is believed that on this very day, the Satya Yuga and Treta Yuga began, and Lord Vishnu’s sixth incarnation, Lord Parashurama, descended on Earth.

Significance of the Great Festival Akshaya Tritiya means that which yields everlasting results, never coming to an end. The prayers, penance, and charity performed on this day bring eternal rewards. This day is a golden gateway to attaining happiness, prosperity, and good health.

Endless Merit of Charity Charity performed on Akshaya Tritiya destroys the accumulated sins of a devotee. According to religious belief, one should donate water-filled pots, roasted gram flour (sattu), jaggery, fruits, grains, and meals to priests and those in need on this day. Such acts of giving open the path to happiness, good fortune, and prosperity in the donor’s life and bring peace to the family.

“Giving with devotion brings blessings” This means that charity offered with sincere faith on this day grants happiness in this life and spiritual upliftment in the afterlife.
